My bed needs a head (board)
I know most of you have dreamy, 5 piece Bedroom suites whereas I just bought myself a new bed (first one in years). Don’t ask why I was a floor-sleeper, but am now resting high on a mountain of softness.
However, my bed is headboard-less. It looks lonely, naked and sad. I have been scouring stores for the proper crown and have come up empty.
Then I found these really great DIY (that’s “do-it-yourself” for non-crafters like me) headboards.
Style #1-Old Door headboard
(Two reclaimed doors can become a focal point for my room-Very creative.)
Style #2-Store Sign Headboard
(I’m already thinking of all the possibilities here. Signs are everywhere)
Style #3-Big Picture Headboard
(I could have a great picture/poster enlarged. Endless ideas on this one)
Style #4- Corrugated Metal Headboard
(This one might be tricky to have cut, but is possible and very creative)
I’m non-traditional and my tastes run more into the Bohemian theme. So knowing this, can you help me decide on a new head(board) for my bed.
Which one would you choose (if any, or not just pretend)?

I second the poster on plywood, easier to change with your changing moods…hey you could even get posters of the other styles, how would that do?

Anything but the metal? I like the look of the doors, very bohemian, but truth is, it wouldn’t work in practice as well as the sign or the poster/pic.
But I wouldn’t have bought a bed without a headboard. That’s why I’m sleeping on the floor still and you are now in a comfy bed. Still, my floor is comfy too.
PS What’s a dreamy 5 piece bedroom suite????
I’m thinking the doors for the guest room (kids vacate soon) and the poster/pic for mine.. another blogger had a great idea of changing the poster/pic with my mood/season..
well I bought no headboard because i saw none i truly felt were worthy of my hard earned money

These are all great ideas. But what about fabric over carboard stuffed with pillow filling? It will be nuch easer to assemble than metal. And far more comfortable too. You can do any shape, color, or size you want. They do it all the time on HGTV and it always looks great. All you need is fabric, needle and thread, and prolly a staple gun or industrial strength glue, lol.
I actually saw something simliar to what you describe and it was gorgeous.. It was this beautiful burgandy type fabric, but alas, my sewing diy skills are quite sorry..lol

Style #1 and #2 are my favourites. Vintage holds so much history, and bring some of its story in any space.

Or how about a simple piece of material hung at the back of the bed – but that’s me looking for the quick and easy option as I have no patience!

I’d be uncomfortable with the corrugated metal one. But the rest are pretty cool.
How about painting something on the wall and installing a narrow self above the bed?
Now I saw one (I should have posted the picture) where the wall was one color and then a shelf was hung over the bed and it was a white color.. looked so cool.. this is a hard decision!!

No!!!!! Don’t do that. I ended up with a bottle of perrier water hitting me on the head on my birthday (I know – birthday – perrier water?) because we had a shelf over the bed.

i like the doors. i’ve also seen people go to home depot and get a section of wood-slate fencing. you can paint it, stain it, or just leave it as it is. but i like the doors. it suggests a place to go for dreams when you’re asleep. like ‘through the looking glass.”
I love the doors and i saw one with the fence too.. It was so pretty and they had it painted white with some dried grass weaved in it.. beautiful, and I love the idea of “dreaming”

This sounds so fun.I’ll go for the Big-Picture Headboard. You can put your most treasured photo in there and can change it every once in a while.
I feel like a kid in the candy store and all over a headboard..lol.. it’s a toss up between the doors and the poster..

I’m a sucker for the doors…. I love antique things. Romantic, Rustic, and it just looks plain inviting. But it seems like it would only look right and airy as long as your bed room is open and had a lot of light.
If not, then I vote for the big picture
So far the doors are tied with the Big picture.. Maybe I will have to do two and switch them up as my mood changes.. I’m serious..

And then it occurred to me, a week after we bought our bed frame, I realized that the head and foot colors we had (light brown and forest green) were the same as Barnes and Noble.
No wonder my girl picked that frame.
And yes, I love getting into it every night too.

FPP, this post is making my head spin. We have a king sized bed with no headboard and we’ve been looking at “traditional” headboards. These have me thinking now. I like them all but I think the store sign one is really cool. My wife says #4. She also says I can’t have a big store sign for a headboard…. Damn.
I love these ideas.. so, maybe a really cool store sign. or I also saw a wooden fence one ..
I will not get a traditional one.. no way Jose. I think I’m going with the doors..

My mom made a headboard for my sister from sturdy cardboard, cotton batting, fabric, and a few cool buttons (for tucks). Inexpensive, easy, and custom-designed…how cool is that?
