Raffaelle Monti-Sculptor Divine
Every so often I come across things that make me sit back on my heels, shake my head and leave me at a loss for words. While tending to poetry business on The Book of Faces this morning, my friend Alexander had a picture posted. It was a piece of art by Italian sculptor, Raffaelle Monti (1818-81).
I am the first one to admit my knowledge of Italian sculptors is very limited and this piece literally took my breath away with it’s beauty. Had I seen this in person for the first time, I’m quite certain I would have been moved to tears. (Yes, I cry at beauty).
How did he get the stone to ripple like fabric… It’s stunning
I am beyond amazed that almost 200 years ago a man took a block of stone, a chisel and created such exquisite statues.
There truly is so much beauty in the world.
For those who have never seen these pieces I hope you enjoy. For those who have already seen them, a refresher of beauty is a fine thing.

In. Credible.
My thoughts exactly..
Thank you for sharing! This is unimaginable to me and I am glad Raffaelle didn’t hold back his creative juices.
I’m still amazed by his skills..
Thanks for the drive-by:-)
i too cry at beauty. lovely for you to share.
You are very welcome!!!
Lynne, I am absolutely blown away! Thank you so much!! I am following you now and look forward to your coming posts!
I have an art history blog you might enjoy.
Very best wishes. Elliott (elliottingotham.wordpress.com)
I was blown away (still am) have been looking at these pictures all day just trying to imagine how he created this..
I will definitely be over to your blog!!
Thank you
I am no artist…at least not yet. Someone once said, “Art starts where speech ends.”
I am indeed speechless.
Be encouraged!
Great quote and thank you muchly for the visit and kind words..
Always encouraged, there is much for me to still learn
Those look like perfection from here. Beautiful, thanks for posting.
Beautiful indeed.. Thank you!
They are stunning, aren’t they? Jaw-dropping awesome skill. I was lucky enough once to visit the Musée Rodin in Paris and have my mind blown. I’ll never forget the impact of it.
Oh so fortunate you were. It’s worth a trip one day to go abroad just to go sculpture viewing.
These are so lovely.
There’s an original at Chatsworth house… if you’re ever around there, it’s certainly worth a visit
I read that.. If I ever get to Europe I will make it a point to visit!!
Lynne,
The veils are just eerie…
Le Clown
Le Clown-eerily beautiful me thinks..
what talent !
i’ve seen monti’s work before and cannot comprehend this achievement. wow. thanks Lynne. continue…
I had never seen his work before and I am now a fan.. Brilliance in stone!
The greatest beauty is still a well-crafted sentence, but this, too, is stunning. Thanks for sharing the beauty and the joy. HF
As a writer myself I too love beautiful verse, but when I see something crafted from man’s hands that finishes up this beautiful, well, there are no words
Exquisite. Ethereal, in marble. ~ Lily
His work is lovely indeed!
To take a block of stone and make it look as delicate as a piece of silk is beyond amazing… some divine talent there.
Oh lordy…i misspelled divine in my title..see i was all loopy over seeing his work..
Love LOVE this post. My undergrad was art history so I’m a nut, totally sob at art sometimes, can stare at one painting for hours, etc.
He is one of my favorite sculptors. But Bernini’s “Pluto and Persephone” has always held a special spot in my heart…. even though it is a rather unfortunate event to capture (her rape)
Oh, I’m going to go check out “Pluto & Persephone”..I really am quite green when it comes to Art history (you and my brother would get along great)..but these pieces blew me away…
That really is spectacular. I feel cheated that I’ve never heard of him.
Thank you so much for introducing me!
I had never heard of him either..we both got a treat!!
Remarkable talent.
Indeed it is remarkable!
