Growing up on the East coast with the Atlantic ocean for a backyard I learned to swim at an early age. I always loved the way one can travel through the water simply my moving one’s arms and legs. As I have aged, I still enjoy getting in the surf to swim or ride those waves in to shore. (Yes, I own a boogey board too).
Four years ago the nation watched as US swimmer, Michael Phelps, conquered all swimming events in the Olympics. The man won eight gold medals. Amazing!! Each night he was to race the family & I would huddle around the TV and not a word was spoken until the end of his races; then all hell would break loose with cheering and such. We witnessed a locomotive in water. Fierce determination, strength, speed, the list is endless on his attributes as an athlete.
I call him “Train-Man”. Pure poetry in motion.
We are at 100 days and counting to the Summer Olympics being held in London. I have been following him these past four years and can’t wait to see him devour the water once more. If you have not witnessed this swimming phenom in action, mark your calendars.
So this summer on race nights, do not expect me to answer that phone, text or email because I will be focused on “Train-Man”. Can he win eight more events? Not sure about that, but no doubt he will give the other swimmers one helluva race and the viewers a memory to remember.
Go Train-Man Go!!!
Ahhhh we are kindered spirits, this confirms it. All of my siblings and I were competitive swimmers. This house is also obsessed with Mr. Phelps. I admire not only his amazing athletic abilities but also his ripped stomach and broad shoulders. And biceps. And hands. Annnnd he makes me drool.
He also went to U of M, which is super close to where I live. But sadly, I have never crossed paths with him. Perhaps one day in the future…. you never know…
I love his nickname! so fitting!
Am I too old for Train-Man posters? Ha! Ah yes, the hands, biceps, abs..he is a well defined athlete…My daughter has a mad crush on him too.. Something tells me Sassy-Frass, you could find a way to meet him..(sounds like a WP post huh?)
bong………bong………bong………I used to look like that, but 2 kids ruined my figure
carry on ladies…………bong………..bong…………bong
haha..he might have hit the bong, but damned if it did not improve him
I see you aren’t sympathetic to my ruined figure…HA
now where did I put that ……bong
I loved that his mom got him into swimming to release some of the ADHD energy…mom’s innovative thinking has given us all something to look forward to again this Summer.
Yes indeed.. I was going to write about her as well.. What a wonderful, supportive Mother!!
Thank Mrs Phelps
I’ve never been a competitive swimmer, apart from against myself, but swimming is always where I find myself.
You may empathise with this post http://roughseasinthemed.wordpress.com/2010/08/19/the-yellow-buoy/
Sorry, it feels like all my comments end with a post on my blog but it says what I want to say.
Oh, and I hate watching swimming on TV, I just want to be in there and swimming too. Never do I ever feel such an urge to do something as much as when I watch swimming. Even that picture of him swimming makes me want to jump in a pool and swim. (Er it’s 20 minutes walk, I’ve just hiked half way around Gib and need to take some paint to Partner which is why I’m not going to do it before you ask).
I’ve never been a competitive swimmer either.. Not sure I could stand the excitement to see him swim “live” Plus I love all the angles the cameraman does while filming
(I’ll check out the links)
Followed him like you..He is a beast…
YES!!!! a fellow fan.. almost time for more summer swimming excitement!!
he is an amazing athlete. atlantic ocean is my backyard too.
while i have the beautiful gulf waters here, I do miss the waves & force of the Atlantic..
Yes, Go Train-Man Go!
train man. hee hee. like sheldon from big bang theory.
Haha.. touche’!
Glad his fooling around after the last Olympics didn’t cost him a spot in the next.
Love your enthusiasm for this!
Yeah him and the bong parted ways
I’m a Masters swimmer. I love open water swimming–especially in the ocean.
And of course I love Michael Phelps.
How did I miss replying to you of all people here. I am so sorry.. Geesh..
I recall you are a god swimmer and I so excited to see him compete again..
Go Michael!!
He looks the perfect athlete – physical perfection. My God, look at that muscle tone! A dedicated swimmer, supreme in the ‘butterfly’ – probably the most demanding stroke of all – but to beat the best in the world consistently – individwuals probably just as dedicated repeatedly – is phemomenal.
I can’t wait to see what he brings to the Olympics this year..
Me too!
A magnificent athlete. A credit to himself and his country.
Yes Ken he really is a fine athlete..Can’t wait to see what he brings to this Olympics!
