One Amazing Mini-Matchbook Artist- Jason D’Aquino
While cruising the web recently I came upon a picture that had been drawn on the inside cover of a matchbook. This was no ordinary “doodle” as many of us have been known to do. No, this was like nothing I had seen before. This was pure, creative Art.
The Artist, Jason D’Aquino is a talented Miniaturist. In doing some research on who could draw such cleverly detailed things on a space so small, I found out he started his career drawing illustrations for Christian children’s books. Seems he has had a pencil in his hand, drawing, since he was a child.
Jason’s works have gained national attention and it’s no “small” wonder. The detail in each piece is remarkable and according to his website he has over 100 Matchbook drawings. I must add, he has the coolest looking website but one would expect nothing less from a person with his talents.
Jason is also a world renowned tattoo artist and owns a parlor in Buffalo, NY called Leviathan Tattoo. Ignition Publishing will soon be releasing a hardbound book of his creations, so be on the look out for something surely to become a collectors edition.

Wow! What detailing!!
I know right.. really great work!
I love the 50 foot woman.
I can’t draw. I wish I could. But at least I appreciate artistic talent when I see it. He’s amazing.
I still draw like a first grader.. I see people drawing good stuff and feel so inadequate
Freaking amazing!
I can’t even draw on paper much less a matchbook ..
Very cool!

Great story from our creative cousin…
Thanks for sharing my NOLA cousin!!
What a fun way to use a talent!
Wish I had just a little bit of this talent!
Unbelievable!
My words exactly!
I love the Bukowski one. But they’re all unbelievable.
I like that one alot too and the 50 Ft woman!
Wow! That is amazing work!
He is very talented for sure!!
Beautiful.
There was a man in the UK who carved matchsticks. He could detail an elephant on the end of a match. Only a few matches in each box were suitable for carving.
Oh I’d love to see that. I get amazed at the talents some people have.. incredible!
Those are amazing. Something about art in miniature always fascinates me. So cool.
I love miniature artsy everything I think LOL!
What a cool website! And those matchbooks, well that’s just crazy talented. If I had the nerve to get a tattoo, I’d be driving to Buffalo. I love stumbling across these kinds of unique things…thanks for finding this one. Have a great weekend!
I would definitely trust him to do a tattoo but I’m too chicken to get one.. His work is awesome for sure!
Proof that if I had talent it would have tremendous bounds.
Can you imagine being able to do this.. Tres’ Cool for sure..I’m still drawing stick people with 4 fingered hands.
This is amazing … I actually came back to see it again. What a talent!
Thank you for posting this,
Daniela
Glad you enjoyed this post Daniela.. I thought it would be a fun post
Have a great weekend!!
stick people are awesome
ha.. not if their heads are like watermelons and hands are missing fingers. I truly can NOT draw!!
It’s good stuff. That one of Jack Nicholson is amazing. I wonder how long it took to create.
I’m not sure how long he works on these but something tells me he’s rather quick. Yes, That one of Jack is awesome!!
Wow, skilled indeed.
Some people’s artistic abilities amazes the hell out of me!
Oh my, how does he do this? I cannot believe this. I am learning to draw by myself. I just finished drawing my version of a horse from a calendar I have. I also drew a vase of intricate flowers. I am realizing how difficult it is to show dimension, shading, and draw a horse joint, or the bend of a flower petal. This was fabulous!
I’d have to say he is really talented. Good for you in starting to draw.. I have tried in the past and yes, the details, shading etc was too much for me. Please do a post and show some of your work. Be proud!!
Wow is all I can say!! These people make me so jealous!!
You always point out such wonderful and talented people I would never have come across. Love it!! Thanks for sharing.
I’m jealous too!! I can’t draw worth a damn and this guy draws on a matchbook of all things..
You are very welcome
I’m now hunting for a video of the creative process for these.
Oh cool.. let me know if you find one or something..
Even though I hate “The Shining” film, I love this art and what he does! Very cool!
Ha..I’m not a “Shining” fan either, but yes, he’s quite talented..I like the typewriter & Frida Khalo alot
I was also fond of his Hitchock drawing, I recently took a course about the director and must say he does him justice in his art!
